Gut microbiota: A target for prebiotics and probiotics in the intervention and therapy of food allergy.

Abstract
Food allergy has become a major public health problem all over the world. Evidence showed that allergic reactions induced by food proteins often lead to disturbances in the gut microbiota (symbiotic bacteria). Gut microbiota plays an important role in maintaining the balance between intestinal immune tolerance and allergic reactions. Dietary intervention has gradually become an important method for the prevention and treatment of allergic diseases, and changing the composition of gut microbiota through oral intake of prebiotics and probiotics may serve as a new effective adjuvant treatment measure for allergic diseases. In this paper, the main mechanism of food allergy based on intestinal immunity was described firstly. Then, the clinical and experimental evidence showed that different prebiotics and probiotics affect food allergy by changing the structure and composition of gut microbiota was summarized. Moreover, the molecular mechanism in which the gut microbiota and their metabolites may directly or indirectly regulate the immune system or intestinal epithelial barrier function to affect food immune tolerance of host were also reviewed to help in the development of food allergy prevention and treatment strategies based on prebiotics and probiotics.

Non-Coding RNAs in Kidney Stones.

Abstract
Nephrolithiasis is a major public health concern associated with high morbidity and recurrence. Despite decades of research, the pathogenesis of nephrolithiasis remains incompletely understood, and effective prevention is lacking. An increasing body of evidence suggests that non-coding RNAs, especially microRNAs (miRNAs) and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), play a role in stone formation and stone-related kidney injury. MiRNAs have been studied quite extensively in nephrolithiasis, and a plethora of specific miRNAs have been implicated in the pathogenesis of nephrolithiasis, involving remarkable changes in calcium metabolism, oxalate metabolism, oxidative stress, cell-crystal adhesion, cellular autophagy, apoptosis, and macrophage (Mp) polarization and metabolism. Emerging evidence suggests a potential for miRNAs as novel diagnostic biomarkers of nephrolithiasis. LncRNAs act as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) to bind miRNAs, thereby modulating mRNA expression to participate in the regulation of physiological mechanisms in kidney stones. Small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) may provide a novel approach to kidney stone prevention and treatment by treating related metabolic conditions that cause kidney stones. Further investigation into these non-coding RNAs will generate novel insights into the mechanisms of renal stone formation and stone-related renal injury and might lead to new strategies for diagnosing and treating this disease.

Sensitive biosensors based on topological insulator Bi2Se3 and peptide.

Abstract
In this work, we designed a facile and label-free electrochemical biosensor based on intrinsic topological insulator (TI) Bi2Se3 and peptide for the detection of immune checkpoint molecules. With topological protection, Bi2Se3 could have robust surface states with low electronic noise, which was beneficial for the stable and sensitive electron transport between electrode and electrolyte interface. The peptides are easily synthesized and chemically modified, and have good biocompatibility and bioavailability, which is a suitable candidate as the recognition units for immune checkpoint molecules. Therefore, the peptide/Bi2Se3 was developed as a suitable working electrode for the electrochemical biosensor. The basic performance of the designed peptide/Bi2Se3 biosensor was investigated to determine the Anti-HA Tag Antibody and PD-L1 molecules. The linear detection range was from 3.6 × 10-10 mg mL-1 to 3.6 × 10-5 mg mL-1, and the detection limit was 1.07 × 10-11 mg mL-1. Moreover, the biosensor also displayed good selectivity and stability.

Hypertension, antihypertensive drugs, and age at onset of Huntington's disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Associations between blood pressure (BP) with age at onset of Huntington's disease (HD) have reported inconsistent findings. We used Mendelian randomization (MR) to assess effects of BP and lowering systolic BP (SBP) via the genes encoding targets of antihypertensive drugs on age at onset of HD. METHODS Genetic variants from genome-wide association studies(GWAS) of BP traits and BP-lowering variants in genes encoding antihypertensive drugs targets were extracted. Summary statistics for age at onset of HD were retrieved from the GWAS meta-analysis of HD residual age at onset from the GEM-HD Consortium included 9064 HD patients of European ancestry (4417 males and 4,647 females). MR estimates were calculated using the inverse variance weighted method, supplemented by MR-Egger, weighted median, and MR-PRESSO methods. RESULTS Genetically predicted SBP or diastolic BP increase was associated with a later age at onset of HD. However, after SBP/DBP was present as a covariate using multivariable MR method, no significant causal association was suggested. A 10-mm Hg reduction in SBP through variants in genes encoding targets of calcium channel blockers (CCB) was associated with an earlier age at onset of HD (β=-0.220 years, 95% CI =-0.337 to -0.102, P = 2.42 × 10- 4). We did not find a causal association between angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors and β-blockers with the earlier HD onset. No heterogeneity and horizontal pleiotropy were identified. CONCLUSIONS This MR analysis provided evidence that genetically determined SBP lowering through antihypertensive drugs might be associated with an earlier age at onset of HD. The results may have a potential impact on management of hypertension in the pre-motor-manifest HD population.

The effects of curcumin on anthropometric and cardiometabolic parameters of patients with metabolic related diseases: a systematic review and dose-effect meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Abstract
Objective:To perform a meta-analysis of published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to assess the effects of curcumin supplementation with different formulations on anthropometric and cardiometabolic indices in patients with metabolism-related diseases (MRDs). Methods: Six databases, including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, China national knowledge internet (CNKI), Wanfang and China Biology Medicine (CBM), were systematically searched to find relevant articles from 2011 to July 2021. The effect sizes were expressed as weighted mean difference (WMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Between-study heterogeneity was assessed using I2. Subgroup analysis was conducted to find possible sources of heterogeneity. Curcumin formulations in this study were divided as low bioavailability, high bioavailability and nanocurcumin. Results: Of the retrieved 1585 articles, 31 were included in the final analysis. Combined effect sizes suggested a significant effect of curcumin supplementation on reduced body weight (BW) (WMD: -0.94 kg, 95% CI: -1.40, -0.47) and body mass index (BMI) (WMD: -0.40 kg/m2, 95% CI: -0.60, -0.19), respectively. The results also showed significant improvements of fasting plasma glucose (FPG) (WMD: -0.50 mg/dL, 95% CI: -0.72, -0.28), glycosylated hemoglobin (Hb1Ac) (WMD: -0.42%, 95% CI: -0.57, -0.26), insulin (INS) (WMD: -1.70 μIU/mL, 95%CI: -2.03, -1.38), homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) (WMD: -0.71, 95%CI: -1.11, -0.31), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (WMD: 1.73 mg/dL, 95%CI: 0.78, 2.68) and high sensitivity C-reactive protein (Hs-CRP) (WMD: -1.11, 95%CI: -2.16, -0.05). Nanocurcumin showed a greater reduction in FPG (WMD: -1.78 mg/dL, 95% CI: -2.49, -1.07), INS (WMD: -1.66 μIU/mL, 95% CI: -3.21, -0.11), TC (WMD: -12.64 mg/dL (95% CI: -23.72, -1.57) and LDL-C (WMD: -8.95 mg/dL, 95% CI: -16.51, -1.38). The dose-effect analysis showed that there were trends of first rising and then falling between the supplemented curcumin dose and BW, BMI, LDL-C, Hb1Ac, which were clearly distinguished at 80 mg/d due to the strong effect of nanocurcumin on outcomes. A slow upward trend between the dose of curcumin supplementation and HDL-C. No relationships between dose and outcomes were found for FPG and insulin, except for nanocurcumin at 80 mg/d. Conclusions: Our study showed some significant beneficial effects of curcumin supplementation on improving BW, BMI, and the levels of FPG, Hb1Ac, HOMA-IR, HDL-C and Hs-CRP in patients with MRDs. Nanocurcumin may have a greater effect on the reduction of FPG, INS, TC and LDL-C than other curcumin formulations. Considering the potential bias and limitations of studies included, further quality studies with larger sample sizes are needed to confirm these results.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Soil salinization threatens food security and ecosystem health, and is one of the important drivers to the degradation of many ecosystems around the world. Soil microorganisms have extremely high diversity and participate in a variety of key ecological processes. They are important guarantees for soil health and sustainable ecosystem development. However, our understanding of the diversity and function of soil microorganisms under the change of increased soil salinization is fragmented. AIM OF REVIEW Here, we summarize the changes in soil microbial diversity and function under the influence of soil salinization in diverse natural ecosystems. We particularly focus on the diversity of soil bacteria and fungi under salt stress and the changes in their emerging functions (such as their mediated biogeochemical processes). This study also discusses how to use the soil microbiome in saline soils to deal with soil salinization for supporting sustainable ecosystems, and puts forward the knowledge gaps and the research directions that need to be strengthened in the future. KEY SCIENTIFIC CONCEPTS OF REVIEW Due to the rapid development of molecular-based biotechnology (especially high-throughput sequencing technology), the diversity and community composition and functional genes of soil microorganisms have been extensively characterized in different habitats. Clarifying the responding pattern of microbial-mediated nutrient cycling under salt stress and developing and utilizing microorganisms to weaken the adverse effects of salt stress on plants and soil, which are of guiding significance for agricultural production and ecosystem management in saline lands.

Abstract
Food nutrition and human health are still interesting international issues. Early detection, risk assessment and diet are vital to mitigate the load of intestinal diseases and enhance the quality of life. Plant-derived microRNAs could be transferred to mammalian organisms by cross-kingdom regulation which adjusts relevant target genes for their participation in the process of carcinogenesis. But the mechanism of plant-derived microRNAs in colorectal cancer is still unclear. This review aims to summarize the current pathways of plant-derived microRNAs in colorectal cancer including intestinal bacteria, the tumor microenvironment, plant active substances and protein, discuss the direct or indirect effects of plant-derived microRNAs on the occurrence and/or progression of colorectal cancer and explain why plant-derived microRNAs can be used as a potential anti-cancer agent. Moreover, the drawbacks of plant-derived microRNAs are also discussed in terms of both edible plants and synthetic delivery vectors for RNAi interference technology for human disease treatment. This review will provide a potential way for plant-derived microRNAs to target colorectal cancer.

Targeting microbiota to alleviate the harm caused by sleep deprivation.

Abstract
Sleep deprivation has become a common health hazard, affecting 37-58% of the population and promoting the occurrence and development of many diseases. To date, effective treatment strategies are still elusive. Accumulating evidence indicates that modulating the intestinal microbiota harbors significant potential for alleviating the deleterious impacts of sleep deprivation. This paper first reviews the effects of sleep deprivation on gastrointestinal diseases, metabolic diseases, and neuropsychiatric diseases, discussing its specific mechanisms of influence. We then focus on summarizing existing interventions, including probiotics, melatonin, prebiotics, diet, and fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT). Finally, we have discussed the advantages and limitations of each strategy. Compared with other strategies, probiotics showed a high potential in alleviating sleep deprivation-related hazards due to their reduced risk and high security. We suggest that future research should focus on the specific mechanisms by which probiotics mitigate the harms of sleep deprivation, such insights may unveil novel pathways for treating diseases exacerbated by insufficient sleep.

Abstract
Temperature is a key factor in regulating and controlling several ecological processes. As there is a feedback relationship between many biogeochemical processes and climate change, their response to temperature changes is particularly important. Previously, a large volume of literature has extensively explored the impact of rising air temperature on shoot growth and maize yield, from enzymatic responses within the leaf to grain yield. As the global temperature continues to increase and the frequency, duration, and/or intensity of heat wave events increases, the soil temperature of the tilth is likely to rise sharply. As one of the most widely planted food crops in the world, maize may be subjected to additional soil temperature pressure. However, as a nutrient organ in direct contact with soil, the root plays a key role in adapting the whole plant to excessive soil temperature. Little research has been done on the effect of the soil microenvironment induced by higher soil temperature on maize root growth and root to shoot communication regulation. Therefore, this review summarizes (1) the effects of excessive soil temperature on the soil microenvironment, including soil respiration, microbial community composition, carbon mineralization, and enzyme activity; (2) the negative response of absorption of water and nutrients by roots and maize root-shoot growth to excessive soil temperature; and (3) potential cultivation strategies to improve maize yield, including improving tillage methods, adding biochar amendments, applying organic fertilizers, optimizing irrigation, and farmland mulching.

A Comprehensive Review of Health-Benefiting Components in Rapeseed Oil.

Abstract
Rapeseed oil is the third most consumed culinary oil in the world. It is well-known for its high content of unsaturated fatty acids, especially polyunsaturated fatty acids, which make it of great nutritional value. There is increasing evidence that a diet rich in unsaturated fatty acids offers health benefits. Although the consumption of rapeseed oil cuts across many areas around the world, the nutritional elements of rapeseed oil and the exact efficacy of the nutrients remain unclear. In this review, we systematically summarized the latest studies on functional rapeseed components to ascertain which component of canola oil contributes to its function. Apart from unsaturated fatty acids, there are nine functional components in rapeseed oil that contribute to its anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, anti-obesity, anti-diabetic, anti-cancer, neuroprotective, and cardioprotective, among others. These nine functional components are vitamin E, flavonoids, squalene, carotenoids, glucoraphanin, indole-3-Carbinol, sterols, phospholipids, and ferulic acid, which themselves or their derivatives have health-benefiting properties. This review sheds light on the health-benefiting effects of rapeseed oil in the hope of further development of functional foods from rapeseed.
